Howard Bank’s Mary Ann Scully Is ‘Good Scout’

Mary Ann Scully, Chairman, President & CEO of Howard Bank, has been named the 2011 recipient of the Howard County Good Scout Award presented by the Baltimore Area Council,  Boy Scouts of America.  Scully was honored at the Good Scout Award Breakfast Nov. 4.

Scully is only the second woman to be honored in the history of the Howard County Good Scout Award program. The event generated $70,000 to support Scouting programs and training to neighborhoods throughout Howard County.

Scully, who is chair of the Maryland Bankers Association, was one of the founding officers of Howard Bank and headed its organizing committee before the bank opened in 2004.  She was lauded for her “duty to other people,” as well as for her professional success and the “esteem and respect” with which she is held in the community.

A Howard County resident since 1995, Scully is a trustee of Howard County General Hospital and Catholic Charities and is a member of the President’s Advisory Council of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.   She is the immediate past chair of the Columbia Foundation’s board of trustees. She chaired Howard Community College's Commission on the Future and served on the Howard Community College Foundation board and the college's Campaign Council, as well as the board of The Horizon Foundation.

In 2007, Scully was inducted into the Howard County Women's Hall of Fame and was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Howard County Chamber of Commerce. In 2002, 2005 and 2007, she was recognized as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record and was a 2008 Daily Record Influential Marylander.

She was the Business Women’s Network’s Woman of Distinction in 2008, received the United Way of Central Maryland's Clementine Peterson Award, was one of the Baltimore Business Journal's 2004 “Enterprising Women” and is a 2008 Seton Hill University Distinguished Alumni and a 2005 Alumni Laureate honoree for Loyola College.
