Cavey has been a commercial banker for nearly 30 years and has spent most of his career in Anne Arundel County. “I am looking forward to helping an outstanding bank establish a presence in a strong market. This move to Anne Arundel County will also benefit our existing clients in the market. Our ability to leverage Howard Bank’s existing relationships in Anne Arundel County as well as to introduce the bank to new clients looking for a small and sophisticated local bank focused on commercial business is a unique opportunity.”
Cavey began his banking career in 1980 as a commercial banking officer at Maryland National Bank. In 1987 he joined Sovran Bank as Vice President of its corporate lending division. He was also a senior manager for Dynasplint Systems in Severna Park. He later became Senior Vice President, Regional Manager of the Chesapeake Division business for M & T Bank.
He joins Howard Bank from Sandy Spring Bank in Olney where he was Senior Vice President, Commercial Banking Manager of the Chesapeake Division.
A 1979 graduate of Duke University, Cavey lives in Severna Park. He is a 1996 Mount Saint Joseph High School Hall of Fame Inductee, and has served on the school’s board of directors and finance committee. He has also served on the Youth Outreach Foundation’s board of directors.
The father of three children, 19-year-old twin boys and a 14-year-old daughter, Cavey has been a volunteer coach for the Green Hornets Athletic Association. He has also been a member of the Severn River Swim Club Board of Directors and served as its Marina Chairman.
Howard Bank President and CEO Mary Ann Scully said, “We are looking forward to the larger Howard Bank presence in and commitment to Anne Arundel County. We have many customers there now, and, with his broad commercial banking experience and deep roots in the county, Mike Cavey is the perfect person to lead our effort to grow in that area. We and our customers are very lucky to have him on board.”
