Howard Bank's Scully Named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2007 Award Finalist

Mary Ann Scully, President and CEO of Howard Bank, is a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2007 Award in the Maryland program.  According to Ernst & Young, the awards program is designed to recognize outstanding entrepreneurs on a regional, national and global level who are building and leading dynamic, growing businesses. 

Scully was selected as a finalist from nearly 50 nominations by a panel of independent judges.  Award winners will be announced at a special gala event on Thursday, June 28 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. 

Since 2004, Mary Ann Scully has been Chairman, President and CEO of Howard Bank, of which she is a Founding Organizer. In 2003, she headed the organizing team for the locally owned and managed bank, the first to open in Howard County in 15 years.

Prior to organizing Howard Bank, Scully had a distinguished 30-year career as a banking professional with Allfirst Bank (formerly The First National Bank of Maryland and now M&T Bank).

Howard Bank was recently named a finalist in the Small Business of the Year Awards Program by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. Scully and Howard Bank were presented a Economic Development Achievement Award by the Howard County Economic Development Authority in 2006.

Scully currently holds trustee positions on The Columbia Foundation, the county’s community foundation, and The Horizon Foundation, the charitable organization that is advancing the community’s health and wellness via grant making and partnerships.
She chairs the Howard County United Way Partnership Board and serves on the board of the United Way of Central Maryland.  She is Vice Chair of the Advisory Board of the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County. 

In 2002, 2005 and 2007, Scully was recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Maryland Daily Record and in 2004 was named one of the Baltimore Business Journal’s Enterprising Women.  She was honored at the YWCA Annual Leaders Lunch in 2005 for Business Leadership and was also a 2005 Alumni Laureate recognized by Loyola College. Scully was named to the Howard County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2006.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.  Awards are given to entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
