Howard Bank Honored by The Arc of Maryland
Howard Bank, the county’s only locally owned and managed bank, has been awarded a 2007 Certificate of Appreciation from The Arc of Maryland. The recognition is afforded those who have made a “particular achievement in the field of mental retardation on a voluntary or employed basis.”
Howard Bank was recognized for its support to The Arc’s Adopt A House initiative, which seeks to improve living conditions for people served by The Arc’s residential services program. The bank adopted its first house last year, renovating and refurbishing a residence in Elkridge. In June of this year, The Arc tackled a second residence, a townhome in Owen Brown. During the projects, bank volunteers painted, made repairs, did lawn work and landscaping, as well as redecorated. The bank’s efforts also included purchasing items for the homes, as well as supplies for the renovation.
Howard Bank has branches in the Village of Hickory Ridge in Columbia, on Snowden River Parkway in Ellicott City and on Johns Hopkins Road in Maple Lawn. A fourth branch in Ellicott City at the crossroads of Route 40, Centennial Lane and Frederick Road is also planned.
