Mary Ann Scully
Chairman, President, Chief Executive Officer
Mary Ann Scully, 62, has served as a director and as the Board Chairperson, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Risk Officer of Howard Bancorp since December 2005 and has served as a director and as the Board Chairperson, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Risk Officer of Howard Bank since the founding of the Bank in 2004. Ms. Scully is also an organizing director of Howard Bank and the Chair of the Executive Committee of the boards of directors of both Howard Bancorp and Howard Bank. Ms. Scully was employed by Allfirst Bank (formerly known as The First National Bank of Maryland and now known as M&T Bank) from 1973 through April 2003. She served as Executive Vice President for Regional Banking from June 2001 through April 2003, Executive Vice President for Community Banking from January 2000 through June 2001, Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning from 1998 to 2000, Senior Vice President for Mergers and Acquisitions from 1996 to 1998, and Senior Vice President of International Banking from 1984 to 1996.
Ms. Scully has been a Howard County resident since 1995. She is past chair of the Maryland Bankers Association and the Community Foundation of Howard County and presently sits on the Foundationís Leadership Council She was appointed to the Baltimore branch of the Federal Reserve Bank in 2014. Ms. Scully was also appointed to the Maryland Legislature's Augustine Commission on economic development in 2014.She presently serves on the board and Executive Committee of Catholic Charities, is the co-chair of the Corporate campaign and a board member of Kennedy Krieger Institute. Ms. Scully was formerly a trustee and served on the Finance Committee and the Capital Campaign Council of the Howard Community College Foundation Board, as a trustee of the United Way of Central Maryland, as a board member of Howard County General Hospital and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, where she presently sits on the Presidentís Advisory Council, and as a trustee of the Horizon Foundation and as an advisory board member of Loyola University's Sellinger School of Business.
The board of directors of each of Howard Bancorp and Howard Bank believe that Ms. Scully's qualifications for serving as Chairman of the Board include her extensive knowledge of the Bank's history, business and operations, as well as of the banking industry in general and the risks facing the industry. Ms. Scully has gained valuable insight into the Bank and the industry as a result of her long tenure with the Bank both as a director and in her executive officer positions as well as her previous extensive experience at other banks and her being active in several banking associations, including as the past Chair of the Maryland Bankers Association. The boards also believe that her personal and business affiliations in our market areas also qualify her to sit on the boards of directors, and that it is beneficial to have an executive officer, who is familiar with the day-to-day operations of Howard Bancorp and the Bank, serving on the board of directors, which provides the boards with a management perspective that helps the them successfully oversee Howard Bancorp and the Bank.
Robert A. Altieri
Executive Vice President, President of the Mortgage Division, Head of Specialty Lending
Bob is a veteran banker with over 25 years of bank management experience. Bob is an Executive Vice President and President of the Mortgage Division of Howard Bank. Bob has served in that capacity for 18 months.
Prior to joining Howard Bank, Bob was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Carrollton Bancorp, Carrollton Bank, Carrollton Mortgage Services, Inc. and Carrollton Community Development Corporation where he served in that capacity for nearly 12-years. Carrollton Bank was a $400 million community bank servicing the banking needs of the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Prior to that, Bob served 12 years as Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer for Carrollton Bank.
Bob is active in the community through various organizations. He currently serves as a Director for Junior Achievement, HC Drug Free, Columbia Festival of the Arts, and a member of the Executive Leadership Committee of the American Heart Association/Mid-Atlantic Affiliate. Bob also serves on various sub-committees of the aforementioned organizations as well as being a past Director of the House of Good Sheppard, Howard Hospital Foundation, Independent College Fund (IFUND), Columbia Youth Hockey Club, Inc. and past president and Director of the Glenelg Hockey Club.
Paul G. Brown
Executive Vice President, Chief Lending Officer, Chief Client Services Officer
Paul is also a lifelong banker with over 35 years of sales management, credit and strategic management experiences in mid-Atlantic banking. Paul provides direct leadership for the relationship management activities of the bank-commercial and consumer lending, branch and client service areas and the financial advice functions. Prior to joining the organizing group for Howard Bank, Paul served, from 2001-2003, as the Senior Vice President of Regional Banking for Allfirst Bank (now M&T Bank). Before joining Allfirst Bank, he served as Regional President for Keystone Bank and Senior Vice President of Retail Banking for Sun Trust Bank (1997-2000). Paul has also held senior management positions at Citizens Bank of Maryland and Maryland National Bank (now Bank of America) in the areas of strategic planning, real estate finance and retail banking.
Paul has served on the Maryland Bankers Association's Government Relations Committee and the Virginia Bankers Association's School of Bank Management. He also serves as a rules official for the Middle Atlantic, Washington Metropolitan and United States Golf Associations and is a past President of the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association. He is currently on the Executive Committee for the Middle Atlantic Golf Association. He is a graduate of the Howard County Leadership Program and served on its Youth on Board Advisory Program, as well as being a member of the Ellicott City Rotary and serving as a Trustee for the Maryland Banker's Association's School of Bank Management. Mr. Brown served six years on the Board of Trustees of Trinity School in Ellicott City, including two years as Chair of the Board. He recently completed a 7 year term on the Board of the Bright Minds Foundation, volunteering in various roles (Secretary, Nominating and Grants Committee as well as Golf Tournament co-chair). He also assists with the Special Olympics of Marylandís State Golf Championship.
Executive Vice President, Chief Deposit Officer
Dennis is a career banker with over 40 years in the industry where he has extensive experience managing every aspect of retail banking. At Howard he provides leadership for the bank’s deposit acquisition efforts through his management of branch administration, deposit operations, facilities, marketing and human resources.
Finnegan started his banking career at the Equitable Trust Company (now Bank of America) rising through the ranks from management trainee to Vice President and Corporate Secretary. He worked for First National Bank of Maryland (now M&T) as head of the Bank’s Investment Brokerage department and manager of Personal Trust Business Development. He also managed the Baltimore Private Banking office for Crestar Bank (now Suntrust) and managed the new business and sales programs for Thomson Financial Corporation’s wealth identification practice.
He joined Howard after holding a similar post at 1st Mariner Bank. During his tenure at 1st Mariner, the bank grew to over $1.2 billion in assets, 16 banking offices and the highest brand recognition of any Baltimore headquartered bank.
Dennis is a member of the Maryland Bar Association. He is a former Board member of Goodwill of the Chesapeake and the Central Maryland YMCA. He currently serves on the Board of the Sports Legends Museum.
Charles E. Schwabe
Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Information Officer
Charlie has over 25 years of bank management experience and another 7 years as a marketing strategy and marketing research consultant to the banking, pharmaceutical, medical diagnostics and business services industries. At Howard Bank, he provides leadership for the operations, information technology, human resources, deposit management, compliance, marketing and other areas of administration including the bank's strategic partnership outsourcing arrangements. He is also the Bank and Bancorp's Secretary and the Bank's Information Security Officer and CRA Officer. Prior to joining the organizing group for Howard Bank in 2003, Charlie was employed by Allfirst Bank and its predecessor bank, First National Bank of Maryland, from 1988 until April of 2003. He served as Senior Vice President and Manager for the Customer Relationship Management Program as well as the Strategy and Planning Director for the Technology, eCommerce and Operations Division. At Allfirst Bank, Charlie was also Vice President of Strategic Planning for the Mergers and Acquisitions Division and Vice President and Head of small business and retail product development and management. Prior to working at Allfirst Bank, Charlie was consultant and senior manager for a marketing firm that specialized in the health care and financial services industries.
Charlie is a Trustee of Center Stage, the nationally recognized State Theater of Maryland located in Baltimore and is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Maryland Bank Services, Inc., a subsidiary of the Maryland Bankers Association. He is also currently serving on the Catholic Charities Leadership Breakfast Campaign Committee and is Chair of the Catholic Charities Our Daily Bread Gala Committee. Mr. Schwabe serves as on the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Advisory Board for the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation based in Memphis, Tennessee, the Columbia Festival of the Arts Investment Committee and the Safe Systems Advisory Board. He has served as President and Chairman of the Columbia Festival of the Arts Board of Trustees and as President of the Baltimore Chapter of the American Marketing Association.
Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
George is another lifelong banker with over 30 years of experience in the operations, accounting, investment and finance areas of banks in the central Maryland area. George provides leadership for the financial management and investment operations of Howard Bank. In this role, George directly manages all of the corporate accounting functions, management and regulatory reporting, and compliance with accounting principles and disclosure requirements. George also is responsible for the management of interest rate risk, budgeting and financial planning, and tax planning and reporting. Other duties include directing the investment portfolio, as well as overall funds management, and investor relations. George is a Certified Public Accountant. He also serves as the bank's Chief Investment Officer.
Prior to joining the organizing group of Howard Bank, George held several senior financial management positions at Maryland based Financial Institutions, including Mercantile Bank in Baltimore, Farmers & Mechanics Bank in Frederick, Sequoia Bank in Bethesda, and Citizens Bank of Maryland in Laurel.
George and his family have been residents of Howard County for almost 30 years.
