Howard Bank Names Katherine Koustenis Chief Compliance Officer, CRA Officer
BALTIMORE, MD, January 16, 2020 – Howard Bank, a community-focused commercial bank serving businesses, professionals and individuals in the Greater Baltimore area, announced today that Katherine Koustenis has been promoted to Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and CRA Officer.
“Katherine brings deep knowledge of the myriad rules and regulations that Howard Bank must comply with as a leading bank in the Baltimore region, but she also understands the deeply customer-centered reasons to protect our clients and the communities where they live and work” said Mary Ann Scully, Howard Bank’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “She is an integral part of the bank and her promotion is a way for us to demonstrate our deep respect for her contributions.”
Koustenis has been in banking for more than 10 years, specializing in regulatory compliance in state and federal banking laws. She previously worked at First Mariner Bank and was a primary part of the integration team that ensured a smooth transition when Howard and First Mariner merged in 2018.
She is also very active in her volunteer efforts. She is a Committee Chair for Howard’s volunteer committee, where she and her colleagues strategize and plan group volunteering events for the bank. She is also a member of the Junior Achievement Leadership Council. As a member, Koustenis acts as an on-the-ground, in-house representative for Junior Achievement and the board of directors. She is responsible for spreading the JA message at the associate level and encouraging engagement related to general awareness, volunteerism and fundraising.
Koustenis is a graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and operations management. She also is a certified regulatory compliance manager, and a certified internal auditor.
