At Howard Bank, we understand the financial challenges that military service members and their families can face. To address those challenges, the Service members Civil Relief Act (SCRA) provides certain financial benefits and protections for active duty service members and their families.

We are grateful for your service to your country, and we would like to help you understand your benefits and protections under SCRA.

While you are on active duty in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard, you and your dependents are eligible for SCRA protection for loans that originated outside of active duty. This protection includes reservists and National Guard members. SCRA eligibility begins on the date you enter active duty and generally ends within 30 to 90 days after your date of discharge from active duty.

SCRA benefits and protections include:

  • Loans
  • Checking and savings accounts: Reduced fees, including no monthly account maintenance fees
  • Mortgage foreclosure protection: During active duty and 12 months after your date of discharge
  • Property repossession protection: During active duty
  • Safe deposit boxes: No penalty for past due rental fees, if you provide written notice of your active duty orders

To request your SCRA benefits, please provide a written request with your name, address, phone number and a copy of your active duty orders. You may bring the request to any Howard Bank branch or mail it to the address below. We must receive the request within 180 days after your date of discharge.
