Howard Bank Forms Baltimore Team
With an eye on extending its unique brand into a new market, Howard Bank has formed a special team to meet the banking needs of Baltimore City and County businesses with $5-$50 million in revenue
For now, the three-member team is based in Howard County, but the bank expects to open a loan production office within the next 10 months. It also hopes to open a retail branch in Baltimore after the commercial office is up and running.
"We feel like there's a great opportunity because of the type of banking we do," said Tom Drake, who heads the team. "Our loan officers have all been with larger banks, but can now provide a level of personal service customers can't get from the big banks. I'm always amazed that people don't even know who their contacts are at the large banks."
Drake joined Howard Bank from First National Bank of Maryland a year after the locally-owned bank opened. A vice president and relationship manager, he has been a banker for more than 20 years. He lives in Ellicott City with his wife, Kathy and their two children, Rowan, 17, and Harper, 15.
Sean Heffernan brings 16 years of commercial banking experience to the team. A Howard Bank vice president and relationship manager, his responsibilities include commercial development and managing existing commercial customer relationships.
Team member Tyler Wright has been a banker for eight years. An assistant vice president and portfolio relationship manager at Howard Bank, he manages existing commercial customer relationships and commercial business development, with a focus on commercial real estate. He's on the board of the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Developing Leaders Program at NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
"There is a reason we created Howard Bank — to support small and medium sized businesses in an ever consolidating industry" said bank chairman, president and CEO Mary Ann Scully. "And there's a reason for Howard Bank's extraordinary growth over the last eight years — our focus and our related expertise resonate with our target clients.
"We've had great feedback on our brand's extension into Howard and Anne Arundel Counties. We look forward to leveraging our decades of contact in Baltimore as we commit dedicated resources to that market."
Howard Bank opened in August of 2004. It has branches in the Village of Hickory Ridge in Columbia, on Snowden River Parkway in Ellicott City, on Johns Hopkins Road in Maple Lawn and at the intersection of Route 40 and Centennial Lane in Ellicott City. In Anne Arundel County, it has a branch on Defense Highway and a regional office on Annapolis Exchange Parkway.
