Scully Named Chair of Heart Ball

Mary Ann Scully, President & CEO of Howard Bank, has been named Chair of the 2012 Howard County Heart Ball: "Heal. Help. Hope," hosted by the American Heart Association. The annual gala is set for Saturday, May 5, 6:30 p.m.-midnight, at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City. Tickets to the Heart Ball are $350.

Scully is the Chair of the Maryland Bankers Association (MBA) and the immediate past Chair of the Columbia Foundation, Howard County's community foundation.  She is a trustee of Howard County General Hospital, a trustee of Catholic Charities and she sits on the President's Advisory Council of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

The focus of the 17th Annual Howard County Heart Ball is women and heart disease. Heart disease causes more fatalities among women than any other disease. Proceeds from the Heart Ball are used to fund public health education and research. Last year's event garnered over $180,000 in proceeds from sponsorships, auction sales and tickets.

"It is a both a huge honor and huge responsibility to represent the American Heart Association at this year's ball," Scully said. "Heart disease has touched each of us personally - and I am no less impacted than many - but the opportunity to build on the message of awareness and proactive behavioral management so that this killer touches our children less often in the future is one that I am anxious to seize. AHA's presence as an active member of our community and a major funder of local research makes then an invaluable partner."

The Howard County Heart Ball is a black tie event and features cocktail hour and silent auction, dinner, dancing to Essence, and a live auction featuring a timeshare in Cabo San Lucas donated by Harkins Builders, among other luxury items.
