Howard Bank’s Mary Ann Scully Wins Influential Marylander Award
While many people have played a significant role in Maryland’s growth, the business publication notes, the 60 honorees “have each made truly significant impacts in their fields and continue to be leaders in Maryland’s ongoing growth.”
In Howard County where she lives in West Friendship, Scully is known as well for her community service as she is for her leadership at the county’s only locally owned and operated bank. After a long career as an executive in Baltimore based banking, she lead, in 2003 and 2004, the founding group for Howard Bank, the first new bank in the county in over 15 years.
Since she moved to Howard County in 1995, she’s become involved in almost every aspect of community life. She chairs the Howard County United Way Partnership Board, serves on the Board of the United Way of Central Maryland and was its 2003/2004 county campaign chair, is a Horizon Foundation Board trustee and is vice chair of both the Columbia Foundation and the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County
She’s a former trustee of the Howard Community College Foundation Board and served on the college’s Campaign Council and chaired its 2007/2008 Commission on the Future. She was also the 2005/2006 co-chair of the Grassroots Capital Campaign. Scully was named to the Howard County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2007.
