HBAM Honors Koren and Scully for Grassroots Campaign

Steven Koren of Koren Development Corporation, Inc., and Mary Ann Scully, President and CEO of Howard Bank, have been recognized for outstanding contributions to the Home Builders Association of Maryland and the homebuilding industry in 2006.

The duo, who served as co-chairs of the Renovation and Expansion Campaign for Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, were honored at HBAM’s annual President’s Luncheon.

Koren and Scully led a team of local business, religious and civic leaders in raising private funds to renovate and expand the county’s only homeless shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention operation. The renovation and expansion will increase shelter beds from 32 to 55 and will double the building on Freetown Road to over 20,000 square feet.  The campaign is ongoing, and construction on the project is underway.  Completion is expected in early 2008.

Until construction is completed, Grassroots has temporarily relocated to Taylor Manor in Ellicott City, where Sheppard Pratt Hospital operates.  The crisis intervention services are operating out of a facility on Vollmerhausen Road.

To access services, the hot line numbers is still 410-531-6677, and the business number is still 410-531-6006. During construction, Grassroots’ mailing address will remain 6700 Freetown Rd., Columbia, MD 21044.
